Resource Insights

The Resources page lists all resources associated with cloud accounts configured in Buttonwood Central.

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to Buttonwood Central with Insights role

Viewing Resources

This section describes the steps required to view resources which have been discovered by Buttonwood Central.

Procedure Steps

  1. Login to Buttonwood Central
  2. Navigate to Insights > Resources

  3. Click View of the name of the resource

Resource Overview

The Overview tab provides a summary of the selected resource.

Top Section

This section provides a summary of spending for the resource, including:

  • First and last charge
  • Spending profile

Middle Section

This view provides the billing history of the resource, which includes the daily cost and cumulative total over the life of the resource.

Bottom Section

This section provides a list of other resources linked to the selected resource as well as specific billing charges for the day selected from the Billing History graph.

Resource Details

The Details tab provides an overview of the selected resource.

Resource Tags

The Tags tab displays the tags which are currently assigned to the selected resource. It also allows tag values to be edited or removed.

Refer to the article Insights Tags for detailed steps required to manage tags.

Assigning Tag Values

  1. Click Add
  2. On the Add Tag Value screen, provide the following information:
    • Tag Name: Select the name of the tag to add
    • Tag Value: Value assigned to the tag for the deployment

  3. Click Save

Linked Resources

Linked Resources brings inter-related resources together. eg. A virtual machine resource can be grouped with its storage and network resources to provide a wider context.

Note: Linking resources is a manual process. The automatic grouping of resources is available as Deployment Insights when Buttonwood Automate is used.

Linking New Resources

  1. Click Link
  2. On the Link Resource screen, provide the following information:
    • Tag Name: Select the name of the tag to add

View

View details of the linked resource
Unlink

Unlink the selected resource

Resource Charges

The Charges tab lists invoice line items associated with the resource.

Additional Operations

  • Use the filter toolbox to present only charges that are of interest.

  • Click Export to extract line items to file

Resource Notes

The Notes tab can be used to enter comments against the resource.

Adding Notes

  1. Click Add
  2. On the Add Note screen, provide the following information:
    • Importance: The note can be marked as high importance if appropriate - marking a note as high importance will enable a badge against the Notes tab indicating the number of high importance notes
    • Content: Note content in plain text format

Resource Event Log

The Event Log tab is an informational screen which displays system activity related to the deployment.
